Disney’s Snow White remake stumbles as its soundtrack misses the top 10 on the Billboard charts, … More
Disney’s latest attempt to revive a beloved classic is off to a bumpy start – and that’s putting it mildly. The company’s live-action remake of Snow White was supposed to be a major 2025 tentpole, but so far, things haven’t exactly gone as planned. The film is drawing headlines for all the wrong reasons, from lukewarm ticket sales to controversial comments made by lead actress Rachel Zegler. Now, there’s yet another sign that the movie just isn’t clicking with audiences: the music.
Even though Snow White was positioned as a family-friendly musical — one that should’ve generated a fair amount of excitement from fans and Disney devotees — the soundtrack is underperforming in a big way. It’s not just missing major milestones or failing to match the original, it’s barely charting at all.
Snow White Debuts on Two Billboard Charts
The Snow White soundtrack arrives on two Billboard charts this week. Somewhat surprisingly, it fails to reach the top 10 on either tally — a surprising outcome given how tailored the rosters it does land on are for releases like this.
On the Kid Albums chart, the set starts its journey at No. 11, narrowly missing a top 10 launch. It performs even worse on the Soundtracks ranking, which theoretically should be its natural home. There, it opens at a lackluster No. 19.
Snow White Misses the Main Charts
The Snow White soundtrack doesn’t manage to find space on any of the more competitive Billboard rankings as it debuts. It falls short of reaching the Top Album Sales chart, indicating weak purchase numbers, and it doesn’t appear anywhere on the Billboard 200, a tally that combines sales and streaming to rank the most-consumed albums in the U.S.
There’s always the chance that the release could rise in the coming weeks, but right now, that outcome seems unlikely. A tepid debut combined with poor box office momentum doesn’t suggest a resurgence is coming.
Older Disney Releases Outperform Snow White
In an embarrassing twist, Snow White isn’t even the top-performing Disney title this week. That honor goes to Frozen, which originally dropped more than a decade ago. The Frozen set reappears at No. 3 on the Kid Albums chart and rockets to No. 7 on the Soundtracks list, easily surpassing the brand new remake.
Another comeback also overshadows Snow White. Let the Canary Sing, the soundtrack connected to the Cyndi Lauper documentary, climbs back onto the Soundtracks chart at No. 17. That project has already racked up 17 appearances on the tally and is proving to have more staying power than the latest Disney release.
A Box Office Disappointment
So far, Snow White has brought in $145 million globally, with just under half of that total coming from U.S. theaters, according to Box Office Mojo. Unfortunately, the film’s reported $270 million budget, which includes both production and marketing costs, means that Disney is likely facing a substantial loss.
In some past cases, the studio has been able to recoup a portion of its investment through successful soundtracks. Think Frozen or The Lion King — albums that didn’t just support the films but became standalone bestsellers. That doesn’t appear to be happening here. With the soundtrack falling short on the charts, it looks like this modern-day take on Snow White may fail to deliver on all fronts.
